Technologies in Dr. Garino orthodontic clinic

The clinic have the most cutting edge and up to date digital technologies in the orthodontic field.

They have been gradually introduced in the office with different aims.

First, taking pictures, radiographs and digital models allowed the optimization of working time by the doctors and staff and the reduction of spaces required with traditional systems, to keep all this documentation in years, according to law.

Since 2010 intraoral scanning ( a digital impression system) is used instead of traditional impressions to realize both study models and virtual treatment plans in 3D.

For the radiographic documentation, available both in 2D and in 3D,  the use of digital systems, firstly indirect and then direct, allowed a strong reduction of patient exposure to radiation, as well as an immediate display of images for diagnostic and for monitoring of the orthodontic treatment.

In addition, in a diagnostic point of view, the use of these technologies enables Drs. Garino to have suddenly all the instrumental elements to perform an accurate orthodontic diagnosis, complementing the clinical examination while being on the chair.

The invisible appliance Invisalign, used in the clinic since 2001, is one of the most modern clinical applications of digital technologies, providing a three dimensional view of dental arches, and represents the arrival, in orthodontics, of the CAD/CAM technologies.

In the clinic, self-ligating, miniature, aesthetic and extremely efficient orthodontic appliances are also used for over 20 years. Even communication systems with the patient (sms and email) and with colleagues (in the Clinic and via the internet), are one of the important aspects of these technologies derived from a clinical application.

he i-Tero scanner, 3D intraoral Scanner

Since September 2010, a new technology has been implemented in our clinic. With this new device, one of the first installed in Europe, it’s  possible to electronically scan the teeth to get a digital impression.

When the scan is completed, the on screen real-time scanning is displayed on video, and it’s possible to generate a digital model, a 3D virtual simulation and a procedure for indirect bonding.

Since May 2011, this technology is used in the Clinic for all our aligner cases.

This technology eliminates many processes currently used for taking impressions and for classic discomfort suffered by patient while taking impressions.

In 2013 the office has acquired a new intraoral scanner, i-Tero 2.9

In september 2015 a new intraoral scanning system has been installed, i-Tero Element: this scanner have changed consistently scanning time, within 2 minutes. During the European Invisalign Summit, held in Barcelona, dr Garino beat the word record with 1.59 minutes of scanning time on stage right after he held a conference.

In 2020, Dr Garino upgraded Element with Element 5D, latest generation of intraoral scanner that have included a infrared technology that allow detection of interproximal caries.

Digital Study Models

Digital models are used in the office of Dr. Garino since 2001 in place of traditional plaster models. They are made with the most advanced CAD-CAM technology.

Their use has brought several advantages, especially from a diagnostic point of view, since it allows for more precise measurements.

It also allowed a rapid access to this type of documentation through a management software, during the orthodontic treatment, and to eliminate the space needed to storage them, until overpassing the environmental impact of their production in plaster.

Since 2010, a 3D intra-oral scanning system, I-Tero,  is used for their implementation, instead of the traditional dental impression.

Hardware & Software

The Clinic for years uses cutting edge computer systems. The complete digitalization of the Clinic requires a continuous update of its hardware and operating systems, in order to always have an optimal flow of data across the network.

The network follows the most modern parameters, working at 1 Gbit rather than conventional 10/100 Mbit. Network security plays an increasingly important role, that’s why they use the most modern systems to protect and encrypt data.

In a single software, photographs, radiographs and digital models are stored, thanks to a bridge computer with software specifically designed to handle the three types of data. The patient records are computerized, allowing doctors to real time view and update through wireless devices integrated in the Clinic.

This allows them to be interactive, both with the patient and colleagues, and provides almost immediate consultation of all data.

The use of these software allows sending images, links to the dentist via e-mail, in the case of specialist intervention other than orthodontics one, avoiding wasted time and sometimes accidental loss of radiographic or photographic documentation.

Sterilization Area

This area was completely renovated in 2009 and updated in 2013 with the installation of modern machinery for the realization of disinfection and sterilization processes of orthodontic instruments used in the Clinic.

The area is bordered by a transparent crystal. The cycle of disinfection and sterilization includes a first ultrasonic cleaning of orthodontic instruments, followed by the insertion of the same in a washer-disinfector which is a washer made ??especially for the dental usage.

After disinfecting, all the instruments are wrapped and sealed with a heat sealer and then inserted into a latest generation autoclave.

A modern device used to disinfect and lubricate all handpieces and turbines, with an automated procedure, is also present in the same area.

All these devices have been installed to meet the highest level of technology, even in sterilization and disinfection procedures.

Digital Photography

Digital photography is used in the Clinic since 1996.

Cameras at 8-10 million pixels provide us with high quality and the ability to view, in real time, the changes occuring during treatment.

In our Clinic, great importance is given to digital photography as a means of communication with the patient. In a centralized photographic position, photographs of the face and mouth are produced, entered then into a software, Dolphin Imaging, and then displayed in few minutes directly to the patient chair on LCD screens.

Digital Radiology

The Clinic of Drs. Garino uses digital X-ray systems since 2000, firstly indirect and since few years direct.

From February 2011, a new X-ray machine, VATECH Uni3D, have been installed, allowing doctors not only to create traditional x-rays, such as panoramic and cephalometric, but also localized projections allowing a 3D view of more complex orthodontic situations.

These systems allow not only a diagnostic but also the patient to more accurately understand most of the orthodontic problems, while remaining within allowable emission X-ray.

For intraoral radiography, used to view X-ray images of individual teeth, they use VisualiX Gendex 765 DC, that is also direct digital.

Management

The Clinic has a management system based on web platform.

The management system, integrated with various digital X-ray and photographic image software, is divided into several macro: clinical, economic, calendar management, website management and internal communications with patients.

The management system follows the latest technologies in terms of encryption of sensitive data, compulsory for privacy reasons.

The system is integrated with the website upgrade of the Drs. Garino.

Since 2020 the clinic have upgrade this management system with new features.
